Remarks The testing for the overall migration of a plastic is extremely important if the conformity of the plastic has to be confirmed. This proficiency testing offers you the posibility to show your competence regarding overall migration by one-sided contact, by total immersion, by filling of the article, into fatty food simulants (“substitute tests”), at high temperatures and by rapid extraction into fatty food for relevant food simulating matrices. 1-Octen has an SML value of 15 mg/kg. The ability to determine the presence of 1-Octen and contents around the SML-value reliably can be proofed and certified with this proficiency testing. MEG and DEG have an SML value of 30 mg/kg. The ability to determine contents of MEG and DEG around the SML-value reliably can be proofed and certified with the corresponding two proficiency testing rounds. Migration of chemical substances from the packaging material into the food is regulated according to EU regulation 10/2011. Especially the reports reports of Bisphenol A (BPA), having migrated for example from polycarbonate baby bottles into the infant milk formula awoke public interest. As a result some countries prohibit BPA releasing articles which are intended to be used for infants and children under the age of three. Migration of chemical substances from the packaging material into the food is regulated according to EU regulation 10/2011. Formaldehyde has an SML value of 15 mg/kg. The ability to determine the presence of formaldehyde and contents around the SML-value reliably can be proofed and certified with this proficiency testing. A lot of toxin producing and spore-forming yeasts and moulds ubiquitous occur in the environment and the air and can be analytically detected in different foodstuffs. This proficiency testing is designed because yeasts and moulds are also important as an industrial hygienic parameter as part of determination of surface germ count during the production of foodstuffs.
