With the Water Framework Directive (WFD, 2000/60/EC), the European Union (EU) lays down an integrated management for the water quality of river basins. It states that laboratories involved in water quality monitoring activities are bound to partake in PT. These PT exercises must match the monitoring practice in terms of parameters and their levels. PT providers must fulfill the requirements of ISO 17043, and be accredited and/or otherwise recognized. The Chemical Monitoring and Emerging Pollutants (CMEP) group, a sub-group of WFD CIS group WG E asked us to prepare an overview of the available PT schemes which you now find below.
